We're on the lookout for passionate individuals who value journalism and aspire to contribute to our top-tier reporting, both on-screen and behind the scenes, across broadcast and streaming platforms. We are searching for a curious, creative and competitive Supervising Editor with a vision for the digital future.  In addition to supervising a team of people selecting and editing impactful news content for television newscasts, this position may also play a critical role shaping digital content for our online platforms, streaming media and social media.  As part of our total compensation benefits package, we offer comprehensive medical plans. What You’ll Do:

The Supervising Editor helps oversee video tape ingest and editing functions for the Bay Area’s leading newsroom.  The ideal candidate will have a curiosity for their community and the world around them; be creative in using engaging storytelling techniques in developing video content for our broadcast, streaming and digital platforms; and be competitive in monitoring other newscasts, challenging themselves to be different and working to continually elevate KTVU coverage.

The Supervising Editor works closely with newscast producers and news managers to assign stories, manage breaking news, ensure quality and coach and mentor other editors. The Supervising Editor provides oversight of the ingest and editing operations during the daytime hours, bridging teams of editors who work morning and evening shifts.  Candidates must have excellent editing skills, be able to multi-task and work well under pressure. Other duties assigned as deemed appropriate and necessary.

  • Oversee the selection and editing of news video content, including recording live feeds and editing news and feature stories such as VOs, VO-SOTS and packages.
  • Edit and manage the assignment of HFR stories and video content for broadcast, streaming and digital productions.
  • Foster a collaborative and creative work environment that encourages innovation and excellence.
  • Collaborate with producers and other team members to contribute video content to various live and taped shows and segments.
  • Ensure video content is compelling, accurate, and aligns with the overall editorial vision.
  • Help to trouble shoot technical issues and alert managers, maintenance and information technology teams to emerging problems.
  • Anticipate problems, correct errors and develop workflows and systems so errors do not recur.
  • Strong understanding of journalistic ethics and standards.
  • Proficiency in Edius editing software.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $49.85 per hour. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
