FOX Television Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the U.S. These include stations located in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas, or DMAs, and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago). Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. In addition to distributing sports, entertainment and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week. These stations leverage viewer, distributor and advertiser demand for the FOX Network’s national content.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Master Control Operator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating the iTX Master Control automation system, ensuring the seamless broadcast of our content. This role involves ingesting material, overseeing the system while on air, and maintaining the quality of the system’s output.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manually switch video sources on air during high-value live programming events.

  • Segment and prep video content for air according to format sheets and recording schedules.

  • Ingest commercial content and program feeds from satellite, fiber, and in-house production.

  • Collaborate with other departments to facilitate their needs and interactions with Master Control.

  • Check logs/playlist for timing errors and make necessary corrections.

  • Create and manage record schedules, ensuring all program and commercial content is prepped and ready for air.

  • Monitor the quality of the on-air product, minimize errors, and ensure compliance with FCC regulations.

  • Perform basic software and equipment troubleshooting and repair.

  • Cross-train in the production department to assist during live newscasts, including weekly floor directing responsibilities.

  • Expect varied shifts, vacation coverage, overtime, weekend, and holiday scheduling.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.

  • Bachelor’s degree from a college or university preferred.

  • Valid CTO (Certified Television Operator) certification from the Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) is a plus.

  • Five (5) years of master control experience, ideally in a top 20 market television station.

  • Previous master control experience and understanding of the television station environment.

  • Detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to manage workload with minimal supervision.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to perform well under pressure with high-stakes deadlines.

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $30.28-31.94 per hour for high cost labour markets such as but not limited to New York City and Los Angeles, $25.00-26.50 per hour for all other US locations. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
