JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) Department, the Fire Prevention Department Specialist assists in the overall operation of the Fox Studios Fire Prevention and Life Safety (FLS) Programs. The Fire Safety Specialist supports the strategic planning, implementation, and oversight of comprehensive fire hazard abatement programs. This role requires a high level of independence, decision-making authority, and expertise in fire safety and regulatory compliance to ensure the safety of all studio employees, clients, productions, and departments.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage fire hazard abatement programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local fire codes, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Manage the scheduling and coordination of Fire Safety Officers to support production needs
  • Direct initial responses to on-site fire and medical emergencies, providing expert guidance and support
  • Review conditions and issue required fire permits, coordinate standbys, and enforce fire safety standards for studio operations.
  • Serve as an advisor on fire and life safety (FLS) matters to studio clients, production teams, and internal departments, offering expert recommendations and solutions
  • Conduct routine inspections of soundstages, office spaces, and work areas, identifying and mitigating fire hazards
  • Oversee the electronic inspection program (FIELD ID) and maintain written inspection records, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance.
  • Liaise with local and state fire agencies, organizations, and key vendors to foster partnerships and stay informed of regulatory changes
  • Address complex fire and life safety issues using in-depth knowledge of applicable codes, regulations, and best practices
  • Collaborate with Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) staff to develop and achieve departmental goals and initiatives

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Completion of a state recognized Fire Fighter I course

  • Certification from state certified organization as an Emergency Medical Technician I

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

  • Working knowledge of all areas of the organization and the ability to develop a clear understanding of the company’s key functional processes and resources

  • Strong human relations skills to interface with management and staff at all levels within the organization and to deal with vendors and service providers

  • Respond tactfully, clearly, concisely, and appropriately to inquiries from the public, studio staff, or other agencies on sensitive issues in area of responsibility

  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing using state-of-the-art equipment, software, and methods

  • Organize and prioritize multiple assignments; demonstrate an awareness and appreciation of the cultural diversity of the Fox community.

  • Available to work a rotating shift (Department generally covering M-F 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM), occasional off-hour and weekend work

NICE TO HAVE BUT NOT A DEALBREAKER

  • Completion of the California State Fire Marshal “Filming in California” course

  • Completion of the California State Fire Marshal “Fire Inspector 1” course

  • AA degree from an accredited college with major course work in fire science or related field

  • Previous experience as a fire inspector, fire safety officer, or in a related field

  • Previous experience in the entertainment industry

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is: $55,500.00-82,000.00 annually for California. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
