JOB DESCRIPTION
The Associate, Broadcast Standards & Practices is responsible for the careful review of drama, comedy, reality, competition/game show, sports, and live programming as well as advertising, on-air promos, and other marketing materials in accordance with FCC and FTC regulations and network guidelines. In addition, the Associate, Broadcast Standards & Practices will operate the Broadcast Interrupt Button during the coverage of live entertainment programming, live specials, and sports programming, including on some weekends and holidays. The Associate performs duties under the supervision of the Director, Standards & Practices, and the VP, Standards & Practices.
A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts the review of assigned comedy, drama, reality, competition/game shows, and sports programming
- Reviews assigned commercials and evaluates scripts, table reads, run-throughs, dailies, rough cuts, tapings, and final cuts
- Assesses acceptability of program and advertising content, and effectively communicates and negotiates any necessary edits or concerns to internal and external entities
- Monitors game shows and competition shows for fairness and compliance with federal & state regulations
- Travels for show coverage and attends meetings (virtual and in-person) to keep abreast of show content and potential issues
- Monitors sponsorships and product integration and determines V-Chip content ratings for all assigned programming
- Provides support and guidance to clients seeking status on submitted materials
- Determines acceptability and placement of marketing materials for on-air, Video-on-demand, and online use according to FCC and FTC regulations and network brand considerations
- Judges acceptability of promo content, and effectively communicates any necessary edits or concerns to Marketing department personnel and Promo producers
- Operates the Broadcast Interrupt Button during the coverage of live entertainment programming, live specials, and sports programming
- Back up the duties of more senior Broadcast Standards executives and create reports and input information into databases as backup to the department administrative personnel
- Works on special projects under the supervision of the Vice President, Commercial Clearance. Associate will be required to work evenings and weekends on a rotating basis
- Addresses standards issues relating to foul or derogatory language, sexual situations, nudity, etc.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 3+ years of work experience in entertainment, legal, programming, production, clearance, and/or S&P
- Fluency in Spanish
- Excellent negotiation skills and strong oral and written communication skills
- Effectively communicate with various internal departments, subordinates, superiors, producers, and advertisers
- Issue spotting, problem-solving, and ability to apply standards and distinguish them from personal beliefs
- Computer savvy with working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, databases, and web browsing.
- Superior organizational skills, and the ability to work well under pressure with close attention to detail
- Ability to apply standards independently, and judge when to elevate questions to managers
- Ability to work on site when scheduled for button duty or covering on-location tapings and productions at local studios and for meetings and professional development activities, and periodical travel to cover productions outside of the city or the country

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is: $54,000.00-73,000.00 annually for California. This role is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
