MarVista Entertainment is a leading global independent entertainment studio that produces, acquires and distributes premium multi-platform film and television content worldwide. We have a very collaborative, talented accounting team and due to growth in business, the company is looking to add an accomplished accounting professional. The person hired will be part of leading the company’s compliance and close processes. This position is also responsible for performing technical accounting research, analysis, and general ledger accounting functions, with an emphasis on General Accounting, Film Cost, Consolidation, Royalties and Treasury.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accurately prepares journal entries and supporting documentation in accordance with US GAAP for each month-end close
Ability to research accounting guidance to document and conclude on proper accounting treatment for unique contracts and business transactions
Accurately prepares monthly balance sheet reconciliations to ensure account balances are properly recorded and supported
Actively participates in year-end audits, including audit support schedules and related requests
Actively collaborates and contributes to the development and improvement of internal accounting processes
Completes special projects and ad-hoc requests, as necessary
Assists with residuals and Participation reporting
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
2+ years of public and/or corporate accounting experience, knowledgeable in US GAAP
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially in Excel
Exceptional attention to detail, flexible and dependable
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Handles confidential and sensitive information and records with a high degree of discretion, diligence, and good judgment
Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills
Listens effectively, transmits information accurately and understandably
Well-organized, self-directed team player. Remains open to others’ ideas and exhibits willingness to try new things
NICE TO HAVE, BUT NOT A DEAL BREAKER:
CPA designation or in process of obtaining, preferred
Sage Intacct experience, a big plus
Residuals or Participations experience, a big plus
Entertainment industry experience, a plus
Experience with ASC 605 and 606 new revenue recognition and/or ASC 926 Film accounting, a plus
