JOB DESCRIPTION

The Big Ten Network is looking for a Social Media Freelancer to join the team on a part-time basis in the Chicago office as a hybrid employee. As the Social Media Freelancer, you will be working closely with existing staff and posting content to various social media platforms (including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube) during Big Ten football and basketball seasons. This is a freelance, seasonal position offering roughly 40 hours per week with a start date on/around August 1, 2022, and end date of April 30, 2023.

SNAPSHOT OF RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Live clipping and posting of Big Ten events, including football and basketball
  • Create off-deadline social content during Olympic sports seasons
  • Make daily in-game social media content to boost overall TV coverage
  • Build Big Ten historical video content for multipole platforms
  • Own a specific social channel as part of a team of producers
  • Monitor social media for news and share it from Big Ten Network accounts

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • 1+ years of experience in social media, communications, or marketing
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which will include nights and weekends
  • Deep knowledge of Big Ten Football and Basketball
  • Familiarity with Big Ten Network’s programming, talent, and brand initiatives
  • Detailed knowledge and experience on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube
  • Passion for social media and evolution of technology
  • A strong handle of grammar, punctuation, syntax, and a Twitter voice
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a keen editorial sense
  • Be very organized, detailed-oriented, proactive and a team player
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment on deadline
  • To always be connected and tuned into the latest Big Ten football and basketball news

NICE TO HAVE, BUT NOT A DEAL BREAKER

  • Communications, Journalism, Marketing or Sport Management undergraduate track
  • Photoshop knowledge
