The Digital Content Creator is responsible for publishing and updating news content on the station’s digital platforms, including but not limited to text stories, photos, links and related information, slideshows, videos and streaming of newscasts and live news events. Also responsible for posting and engaging with users on the station’s social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Alerts users to pertinent breaking news via mobile alerts and social media posts. Monitors web, mobile and social media sites for quality control purposes, and produces special web coverage during major news events. Works with the Digital Content Manager to maintain all production/quality aspects of the station’s web sites and social media platforms. Conceptualizes and produces high-profile, creative and engaging material for use across the station’s digital platforms. Performs duties of online writer/producer, specializing in print-style writing, copy editing and editorial newsgathering. Facilitates the gathering and online publication of local news and breaking news stories, selecting pertinent information from reporters, producers, assignment editors and outside sources and applying commonly-accepted standards of journalism. Reports, writes and publishes original, long-form news content unique to the station’s website and social media platforms. Produces compelling, engaging content for the station’s social media platforms. Identifies stories that are socially-driven, and creates posts that generate interest to drive engagement. Produces live streaming content for the station’s website, Facebook page and other digital live streaming platforms. Monitors social media platforms and responds to the station’s social audience. Works with newsroom editorial managers and supervisors to create a cohesive working atmosphere, integrating broadcast and online newsgathering to facilitate the delivery of content using digital, mobile and social media platforms. Communicates with broadcast news producers and managers to integrate the presentation of digital and social media content into the station’s on-air news product and vice-versa. Monitors the submission of user-generated content, and works with newscast producers and managers to facilitate the use of user-generated content in the station’s on-air news product.
Requirements: Expert knowledge of content management systems. Excellent print/web writing, web editing, interface design, social media and web production skills. Solid understanding of web publishing standards, design and usability. Demonstrated ability to produce engaging content for social media users. Knowledge of common web and application architectures. Knowledge of print and broadcast newsroom encoding techniques. Basic HTML and photo editing skills. Handle multiple demands and completing priorities simultaneously in a strict deadline-oriented environment. Excellent communication skills; strong organizational skills and solid work ethic; and ability to work under pressure as a cohesive team member. Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university preferred. Two to three years of experience working for an online news organization required. One to two years of experience posting news content to social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter required.
