Job Description

The Big Ten Network is searching for a Manager of Transportation Operations to join their team in Chicago. This position will handle management, scheduling, and documentation of the mobile units and drivers. This person will be the transportation operations point of contact for all assigned events. Responsibilities include keeping accurate driver logs, managing time cards of drivers and expenses. The incumbent will work directly with production, engineering, and programming departments and be responsible for having expert knowledge of Department of Transportation requirements as it pertains to the MICR units. Additionally, they will be responsible for ensuring proper staffing, scheduling, and logging for each event. Proficiency with Department of Transportation rules and regulations is necessary and a proven ability to manage projects under tight deadlines is required. Candidates must be self-starters with an entrepreneurial mindset. This is a new position, and someone with transportation/logistics experience will be required to establish the role.



Working with Remote Operations for event planning

  • As schedules are released, working closely with the Director of Remote Operations to ensure units, engineers, and drivers are scheduled appropriately
  • Adapting plans according to changes in production plans
  • Reporting basic financials including labor, travel, and expenses as it pertains to assigned events
  • Keeping updated driver logs and schedules in accordance with Department of Transportation rules

Working with Production for event planning

  • Strategically assigning units, personnel, and equipment to events as requested by SVP/EP of Production, Sr. Coordinating Producer, and Coordinating Producer
  • Assisting in short and long term planning

Working with Engineering and Programming

  • Providing feedback to SVP and Manager of Programming on potential scheduling issues and working with them to resolve
  • Working with the Director of Engineering, Assistant Chief Engineer, and Senior Remote Engineer, as they are responsible for the maintenance and equipment of the units
  • Working with them on scheduling engineers to go with the units

Working to stay current with Department of Transportation rules and regulations

  • Ensuring that all vehicle documentation and insurance information is updated.



  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Transportation Management, Logistics, or Supply Chain
  • At least 5 years of experience in Logistics
  • Basic understanding of remote television production a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills needed
  • Tact, diplomacy and calmness, when dealing with drivers
  • An analytic mind and good numeracy skills
  • Excellent geographical knowledge
  • Good people management and coordination skills
  • Excellent financial acumen
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge of the transportation industry
  • Good intuition to make crucial judgment calls
  • Must be able to create Excel reports/spreadsheets
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment
  • Self motivated and able to have conversations with multiple levels of personnel
  • Must be extremely organized
  • Must be computer literate in MS Word & MS Excel
