Position Summary

Manages and Supports Lab infrastructure, related to Post Production Technologies and Media Processing Pipeline Technologies.  Evaluates new hardware, software and operating system technology and makes recommendations to Technology/Engineering management on adoptions and direction.   

Serves as a key member of application development and upgrade teams and acts as a Subject Matter Expert (SME). 

Primary Responsibilities

 Design, Development and Architecture
    • Assists and Aids in the development of new technologies as it relates to Post Production and Media Processing functions. 
    • Test and Validates in a structured test environment new and existing technologies, Runs structured test cycles.
    • Maintain and Structures Lab Environments, including Storage, Network, Server Environment and Application Support.
    • Designs, develops and documents workflow and tools to automate and optimize the production and media processing pipeline.
 Technology Reviews
    • Researches and reviews new software, operating systems, Encoding and Transcoding systems and 3rd party technologies including QC Systems, File Test Analysis Tools, Editing and Post Production Systems.
    • Evaluates new technologies against competitors and validate the usability of the technology.
    • Educates team and Technology/Engineering management in new technology improvements.
    • Works closely with internal and external vendors to ensure a secure Media environment for Work-in-Progress assets.
    • Maintains a secure lab environment, by auditing and reviewing existing and new technologies related to content security.
 Project Support
    • Works closely with Engineering Technology team to execute test routines 
    • Assists in the evaluation of technical solutions, architecture design and implementation time line in support of production application requirements.
    • Develops and Maintains lab infrastructure as it relates to on-going projects and tests.
    • Demonstrates capabilities of technical implementations to Project Owners
    • Develops standards, policies and procedures as well as best practices documentation.
    • Communicates status and issues to management on a regular basis, and escalates issues expediently.
    • Participates as Subject Matter Expert (SME) as required for design reviews and technology and tool selection.
    • Communicates plans, status and issues to management on a regular basis.
    • Adheres to department standards, policies, procedures and industry best practices.
Departmental Responsibilities
    • Develops Systems Guidelines and Recommended Practices for Lab Environment
    • Recommends Testing Guidelines for evaluating new Encoders, Transcoders and Wrapping devices and software.
    • Identifies new compression Codecs and helps introduce them into production.
    • Facilitates logistics between internal teams and outside service vendors or manufacturers for workflow tests, product demonstrations and evaluations

Job Requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Media frameworks, and video and audio processing.
  • Wide knowledge of Encoding and Decoding practices and methodologies employed for digital distribution in the M&E space.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of post-production systems, practices and toolsets.
  • Fundamental knowledge of video and audio engineering concepts and practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a diversified workload.
  • Solid project management skills as applied to technology and workflow management
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, clients and other IT personnel.
  • Ability to write and present effective materials, including presentations, status reporting, technical diagrams and flowcharts.
  • Minimum 5 years Production Technology experience in a Media infrastructure environment.
  • Experience in Content Management and general Media Asset Management practices.
  • Experience working with digital asset management systems, web content management systems.
  • Hands on Experience with Video Processing, Audio and Video codecs.
