Job Description

Digital Media Applications team is a core group of Software Engineers with a startup mentality within 20th Century Fox, a Fortune 100 company.  The primary responsibility of this role is to develop, maintain, support, and troubleshoot applications and web services used by the internal post production team on the 20th Century Fox movie studio lot.  The QA Architect is responsible for designing pipelines to performing testing for both back-end services and front-end systems (end to end testing) utilizing automated tools. Testing will be done on desktop apps, websites and back-end systems.  As a key member of this agile team you will work closely with Software Engineers, Systems Engineers, and Production staff (end users) to plan, design, prototype, develop, test, and deploy existing and new more efficient and automated workflows geared toward a lean, fast-paced production unit.  This is a unique opportunity for a self-motivated QA Architect with quality organizational and communication skills who finds fulfillment in seeing firsthand the team’s applications and workflows implemented and utilized by the end user.


QA Architecture

  • Serve as a Quality Assurance Advisor and drives conversations with our development team to adopt best practices software architecture functions such as Security, Performance, Requirements Analysis and Application Governance.
  • Advise and mentor team members, which include business and IT resources in technical and functional delivery aspects.
  • Provide guidance on functional solution architecture & design, application and integration development best practices, enterprise architecture standards, environment management and testing.
  • Architect and implement continuous release pipelines for web applications once QA criteria are met.
  • Refines and tracks QA metrics such as defects, defect counts, test results and test status.
  • Writes and defines test cases
  • Documents all defects and assists in their resolution
  • Automate software application regression tests.
  • Estimates and helps plan testing activities
  • Troubleshoots implementation issues and demonstrates the ability to drive to successful resolution. Leads the evaluation of business and technical requirements from a senior level.
  • Works with Project Management and Software Engineers to provide clear user stories and requirements for test cases and end-to-end testing. 
  • Clarifies and discusses requirements throughout the development life cycle.
  • Implements testing strategies for new features, system stability, load, and regression.

Technology Reviews

  • Researches and reviews new Quality Assurance technologies for the purposes of tracking and automating the QA process.
  • Evaluates new technologies against competitors and validates the usability of the technology.


  • Works closely with Production Systems Engineering and Software Engineering team to ensure security requirements are being implemented and are auditable.

Project Support

  • Works closely with Software Engineers to deliver creative solutions to complex technology challenges and business requirements.
  • Recommends and oversees technical solutions and implementation timelines in support of production application requirements.
  • Ensures infrastructure standards and best practices are followed.


  • Works with Software Engineers and application developers to continuously improve production support levels.
  • Communicates plans, status and issues to management on a regular basis.
  • Adheres to department standards, policies, procedures and industry best practices.

Other Duties As Required 


Required Experience/Knowledge:

  • 5 years of experience as a QA Architect, having supported end to end testing for web apps, desktop apps, websites and back end systems
  • Experience using JavaScript for writing test scripts
  • Experience architecting QA to Release Pipelines
  • Experience with automation testing tools, such as Selenium.
  • Experience writing test cases
  • Experience creating database queries
  • Experience performing validation for end-to-end testing.
  • Experience with black/white box testing, integration, system, regression, usability, stress, and acceptance testing.
  • Knowledge of Application Servers (examples WebLogic and Tomcat).
  • Understanding of agile software development
  • Understanding of web service integration (example: REST and SOAP XML).
  • Understanding of Object Oriented Design and Programming.
  • Understanding of XML schemas and XML methodologies.
  • Understanding of deployment strategies of distributed and multi-tiered applications.
  • Understanding of SQL.

Optional Experience/Knowledge:

  • Experience testing automating Media Post Production workflows a plus.
  • Experience testing desktop applications.
  • Experience with Nodejs feature development (safety and security, web apps)
  • Experience working with digital asset management systems and web content management systems a plus.
  • Experience and knowledge of Selenium and Selenium Grid.
  • Experience or understanding of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) a plus.
  • Good understanding of Media & Entertainment standards (SMPTE, EMA, MovieLabs, IMF, etc…)
  • Familiarity with Video Processing, Audio and Video codecs, and Transcoding Systems a plus.
